The Danube is one of the most enigmatic rivers in Europe. It’s mighty like a king - yet seductive like queen. Its birthplace is concealed by inaccessible caves of the Black Forest Mountains (the Schwarzwald), and it’s final flow is lost in the delta where it merges with the Black Sea.

The Danube is not just a river. It is an authentic world of exciting natural beauty. It is also the guardian of direct traces to the oldest civilizations in existence. It is witness to the conflicts of the many empires who fought for dominance over Europe.  

But above all, the Danube unites more than 80 million people who live in nine countries, speak a dozen or more languages, belong to various religions, and cherish their historical heritage, art, customs, myths and legends.
