Within the span of only three centuries, diligent and skilled individuals of various faiths moved to Novi Sad from many different areas. They created a city known as the “Serbian Athens “. It included a modern university, business, and sports center, and a place where people of all ages can have great food, fun and experiences.

Novi Sad is the first large port in Serbia. The Gymnasium (preparatory secondary school) was founded in 1810, the Matica Srpska – the oldest library journal in Europe has been in existence since 1826. while the Serbian National Theatre was founded in 1861.

Novi Sad is a modern dynamic city with creative and communicative individuals, ready to accept new ideas and make new friends. Some of the particularly interesting cultural happenings are Sterijino pozorje – a theatre festival, and EXIT – the largest open air music festival in southeast Europe, bringing together hundreds and thousands of young people from around the world.

The city trademark is the fortress of Petrovaradin on the right bank of Danube. It was built between 1692 and 1780, has 12.000 gun turrets, a subterranean area on four levels, 16 Km of subterranean passages, and embrasures for 400 cannons.

The Fruska Gora national park possesses remarkable natural characteristics and cultural landmarks. An extraordinary monastery complex nestles on the slopes of Fruska Gora, including 16 Serbian monasteries.

One of the best things in Fruska Gora are its wines. Sremski Karlovci has the best wines in the world, with Vienna boasting a patented rose wine bearing the name “Karlovci”. Every September Sremski Karlovci is host to Karlovac Grape-picking, an event dedicated to grapes and wine.
